Inspired by the leadership of the 20th century polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, The Shackleton Foundation provides seed funding to social entrepreneurs (we call them ‘Leaders’) wishing to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people in the UK, especially addressing the needs of: youth offending, education and attainment, life skills and employability, community cohesion and physical and mental health.
Our board of trustees work together to lead the Foundation, without remuneration, and ably supported by a part-time administrator. This role suits committed individuals who are happy to get involved and ‘do the doing’, and who can proactively contribute to the continuous improvement of everything we do. A copy of the role specification is linked below.
We expect our trustees to;
· Understand and accept the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
· Be open minded, exercise independent judgement and act with integrity
· Enjoy and be willing to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a trustee
· Work effectively as a member of the team
We currently have four trustees who share our vision for a society where young people can thrive and flourish and each bring different skills, experience and expertise, to the board. We welcome applications from all, but to complement our existing board we are particularly interested in hearing from those who come from a business background. From those who can impart their experience and knowledge to our ‘Leaders’ as they develop/grow their own ventures, and who can also open up avenues for our own funding. This is a wonderful and rewarding opportunity to share your talents and expertise and to make a positive difference to the amazing social entrepreneurs we are privileged to support.
To express an interest please briefly outline why you believe you should be considered, or to find out more, please email [email protected]
We will close for applications end of July.
