The Shackleton Foundation is thrilled to announce a significant increase in our support for aspiring social entrepreneurs. Effective immediately, we are increasing our grant giving to £15,000 per Leader, empowering them to drive meaningful social change and benefit disadvantaged young people in the UK. In conjunction with this increase, we are excited to unveil our brand-new website, featuring an engaging and modernised application form designed to streamline the process for applicants.

Empowering Leaders with Increased Funding

The Shackleton Foundation is committed to supporting individuals at the beginning of their social enterprise journey, who have the vision and determination to make a difference to young people in their communities. This increased funding comes at a time when its increasingly hard to raise money without proof of concept. By increasing our grants to £15,000 per Leader, we are providing additional resources to help them implement their innovative ideas and build a sustainable business model. Trustees are committed to supporting Leaders who exemplify the same characteristics of courage and resilience as Sir Ernest Shackleton and we welcome projects that are often considered too risky or early-stage. With over 80% of funded projects still in operation after 10 years we are dedicated to fostering leadership that creates lasting positive change.

New Website

To complement our enhanced grant program, we have launched a new and improved website. The revamped site offers a more user-friendly experience, making it easier for potential applicants to navigate and find the information they need, or members of the public to learn more about the work we do. Key features of the new website include: a private area dedicated to our Leader community, enhanced accessibility and updated resources.

New Application Form

Our new, simplified application form is designed to save time and effort, allowing applicants to focus on what matters most – their project. With a simpler format and streamlined questions we are trying to reduce the administration required to access grant giving and instead create an opportunity for potential future Leaders to shine. The targeted questions will also allow us to more readily capture data so we can measure our own impact more efficiently.

“We are incredibly excited to announce these important developments,” said Charlotte Hatfield Chair of the Trustees, The Shackleton Foundation. “We recognise that costs have increased significantly since we launched the Foundation and by increasing our grants to £15,000 we hope that we are reaffirming our commitment to supporting Leaders who have the potential to create significant social change.”
